The Seventh Art: Italian film theoretician Ricciotta Canudo gave cinema the label "The Seventh Art" in his manifesto published in 1911.
He argued that cinema was a new art, "a suberb conciliation of the six ancient arts: architecture, scultpure, painting, music, poetry and dance."
